Half Marathon, 1 March
March kicks off with Paris' Half Marathon, the Harmonie Mutelle Semi de Paris, which sees up to 40,000 people taking on the 21.1km challenge starting at the Bois de Vincennes. Prefer to spectate? Great idea! There are live bands lining the route that make for a fun day out as you cheer on the runners.
Verticale de la Tour Eiffel, 11 March
Why take an elevator up the Eiffel Tower when you can run up the 1,665 steps? Every year the Verticale de la Tour Eiffel brings the challenge to what must be some very fit runners. 130 of them, in fact!
Six Nations Final, 14 March
The last match of the 2020 Six Nations rugby tournament will take place between Ireland and France on 14 March, so be sure to head to one of Paris' pubs to watch France tough it out on the field. Practise your Marseillaise in advance - it's always fun to sing along!
Salon du Livre, 20-23 March
If you're a real bookworm, the Salon du Livre is a lovely event to celebrate all things bookish. Beautifully bound books, historic texts, rare items, they're all here for three days at the Porte de Versailles. Read all about it here
International Documentary Film Festival, Cinéma du Réel, 13-22 March
Screening up to 200 films, this fascinating film festival showcases the best in international documentary making, putting the spotlight on amazing topics and people through its screenings held at the Centre Pompidou, the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles, the Forum des images and the Luminor.
Banlieues Blues Jazz Festival, 6 March - 3 April
Jazz fans might want to check out the vibrant, eclectic programme of this renowned festival in Seine-Saint-Denis, hosted at various venues. Keep an eye on the website for updates about the programme!
Drawing Now Paris, 25-29 March
A festival dedicated entirely to drawing, Drawing Now Paris began in 2007 and now showcases the work of 400 artists and 2,000 artworks from the past fifty years. Discover the latest in the drawing world and inspire yourself at this lovely art event.
Turner Exhibition, 13 March to 20 July
The beautiful Musée Jacquemart-André will bring J.M.W. Turner to Paris from 13 March, with 60 watercolours and a collection of oil paintings on display.
Pompeii, 25 March - 8 June
At the Grand Palais, immerse yourself in 3D projections and sound that recreate the incredible archaeological sites of Pompeii, and even get a flavour of the moments when Vesuvius erupted. This promises to be a fascinating exhibition with all the thrills that new technologies can bring!

Indulge yourself at the Opera Garnier with Mozart's Don Giovanni, and experience an iconic opera in the magnificent surroundings of the Garnier auditorium in red velvet and gilt.
Carnivals & Celebrations
Carnaval des Femmes, 22 March
Join a fun-filled parade with its roots in history, started by the Washerwomen of Paris. This might be the Women's Carnival, but the men participate too - often by "disguising" themselves as women to join the fun! The parade starts at Châtelet at 3pm, returning to the same spot three hours later via the Boulevard de Sébastopol, the rue Saint-Martin and the rue de Rivoli!
